Is a C passing at U Miami? ›

If you take an undergraduate course on a credit/no-credit basis, you receive credit for a grade of C or better; if your grade is C- or less, no credit is awarded. At the graduate level, a grade of B or higher is required to receive credit. Credit/no-credit courses are not figured in your grade point average.

In terms of academics, the middle 50% of admitted students at the University of Miami have an unweighted GPA of 3.8. Aim to have a rigorous course load, with honors, AP, or IB courses, as colleges appreciate students who challenge themselves academically.

We recognize that high school GPAs are calculated in many different ways, which is why we will convert every applicants' GPA to an unweighted 4.0 scale. We separately evaluate the rigor of each applicant's chosen curriculum within the context of their high school environment. Do you consider rank in class?

Students who obtain a 3.8 G.P.A. or better will receive an Award of Academic Merit from the Graduate School.

In undergraduate programs, 'D' is typically the lowest passing grade, but passing may not be enough to fulfill graduation requirements.

Which school is easier to get into? If you're looking at acceptance rate alone, then University of Miami (UM) is more difficult to get into. However, each college is looking to fill its incoming class with a variety of students with different strengths, backgrounds, etc.

For University of Miami Undergraduates

Must have a minimum of 3.00 G.P.A.

The University of Miami (UMiami) has a relatively low acceptance rate because it's a well-regarded institution with a strong academic reputation and many attractive offerings for students.

The acceptance rate at Miami was 92% as of 2020. In a recent article from The Miami Student, the admissions office attributes this spike to problems that COVID-19 brought on in the college application process.

The acceptance rate at University of Miami is 18.9%.

In other words, of 100 students who apply, only 19 are admitted. This means the school is very selective.

Being test-optional, will you consider senior (7th semester) grades in the application review? Grades submitted at the time of application will be used to review your application for admission and merit scholarships. Miami does not require a mid-year official high school transcript nor a mid-year school report.

The Stamps Scholarship is UM's most prestigious merit award available to students at the University of Miami. This scholarship is awarded to exceptional and academically accomplished high school seniors. Stamps Scholars receive the full cost of attendance for four years of undergraduate study at UM.

Full-time students who complete nine or more graded credits will be awarded a Dean's List certificate for any semester in which their grade-point average for the semester's work is in the top 20 percent of their class.

Using State Grants at Miami

If you are considering Miami and you are from the state of Florida, be sure to look into the Bright Futures program. This is a state-run grant for Florida high school students who will be going to school in-state. You can use the money at both public and private institutions.

Undergraduate courses require a minimum grade of D- to earn credit. Graduate courses require a minimum grade of B to earn credit.

This setup treats all final grades of A, B, and C (and sometimes D) as equally passing scores. Usually, most universities grant a pass for any grade higher than a D. Certain universities may only consider grades higher than a C- as passing.

Passing grades: The grades of "A" through "C," and "S," are passing grades.

MDC will award credit only for courses with passing grades (i.e., A, B, C, and other grades considered passing by the issuing institution such as S and P) applicable to the student's degree/certificates. MDC may award credit for courses with "D" grades if applicable towards the student's program of study.
