What is Bone Broth?

You might have guessed it, it is exactly what you thought it was, it is broth made from animal bones.

Recently, I bought a slow cooker and was thinking of ways to utilise it. I don’t know if slow cookers aren’t very popular in Germany or if it isonly my friends and me that have never heard of them before. Therefore, I was keen on putting it to good use. For a while now I have beenresearching natural remedies and beef bone broth was the one that continuously kept popping up. There are different ways of making beef bone broth you can make it by simply simmering the marrow bones in water for 24-48 hours or you can combine it with vegetables, herbs andspices to give it some extra vitamins and flavour. The longer you simmer it the more gelatin, minerals and other nutrients from the bones will be released. Don’t worry if you don’t have a slow cooker you can also make it in a regular pot on the stove. If you do it in a pot you might have to skim the surface more frequently.

Homemade beef bone broth differs a lot from shop-bought one which mostly consistsof artificial flavours and additives. Bone broth can be made from beef, lamb, chicken or even fish but it’s important to make sure to use bones from organic or grass-fed animals.
