Do you use salted or unsalted butter?

    • Janel says

I used salted, because that’s what I tend to buy, but either will work fine.

I just use all purpose, but either would work fine.

These cookies are sooooo yummy! I try to stay away from baking cookies because they never turn out good but I wanted to give these a try. I was looking for something I could make a friend who just lost her husband. I saw this recipe on Pinterest and decided I HAD to make these cookies. I am so glad I did. Not only were they yummy but they stayed nice and soft. Thank you for sharing your recipe 🙂

There is no baking soda in the recipe. How much do you use? At least I do not see it on the list of ingredients.

Wanted to make these but also waiting for this answer. The directions say to add baking soda but baking soda isn’t in the ingredient list.

Sorry about that! 1 tsp baking soda!

FAQs

Do cheesecake cookies need to be refrigerated? ›

Because of the amount of sugar we've added to the cheesecake filling, refrigeration isn't necessary, but I honestly prefer these cookies cold (cheesecake should be cold after all, right?!). If you opt to refrigerate them, you should still store in an airtight container and enjoy within 10 days.

How to get sprinkles to stick to sugar cookies after baking? ›

You have a couple of options for adding sprinkles after baking. While the cookies are still warm from the oven you can press sprinkles gently into the slightly soft surface. If you want better adhesion you can brush the cookie with corn syrup and then dip it into the sprinkles.

Will sprinkles melt in the oven? ›

You can also try adding sprinkles to your cookies before baking, but depending on the recipe, they may melt in the oven. Try it out with one cookie before committing to an entire batch.

How to get sugar to stick to sugar cookies without icing? ›

The easiest thing to do is to brush the tops of the cookies with a little bit of water or milk, to dampen the cookie dough. This will help the sprinkles stick without changing the appearance of the cookie. You can also use a little egg white.

What happens if you don t refrigerate cheesecake after baking? ›

Eggs and milk have high protein and moisture content, and they're the primary ingredients in cheesecake, so when cheesecake is left at room temperature, conditions are ripe for bacteria to multiply. According to the USDA's Food Keeper App, cheesecake should be consumed within 5 to 7 days of refrigeration.

What happens if you don't refrigerate cookies before baking? ›

Popping your dough in the fridge allows the fats to cool. As a result, the cookies will expand more slowly, holding onto their texture. If you skip the chilling step, you're more likely to wind up with flat, sad disks instead of lovely, chewy cookies. Cookies made from chilled dough are also much more flavorful.

Do you put colored sugar on cookies before baking? ›

You can add these additional pops of color either before the cookies go in the oven or when you are decorating them after they are dried. I'll go over some of the best ways to incorporate these decorative sugars.

How do you keep sprinkles from bleeding into cookies? ›

It all has to do with moisture levels, not only in the icing but humidity in the air. I would try adding the sprinkles a little later in the process when the icing has dried a little more or lessening the moisture level they are stored in...or even in the icing itself. Also, try a few brands of sprinkles.

Do sprinkles soften when baked? ›

Most sprinkles do not have an expiration date. They can be stored in a dry place and used for a long time. However, some varieties, like jimmies, may harden when stored for too long. These types of sprinkles can sometimes be softened by using heat from an oven.

What's the difference between jimmies and sprinkles? ›

In the New England region of United States, as well as in Philadelphia, sprinkles are often referred to as jimmies. "Jimmies", in this sense, are usually considered to be used as an ice cream topping, while sprinkles are for decorating baked goods, but the term can be used for both.

What are the round sprinkles called? ›

Round sprinkles or 'Nonpareils'

These sprinkles look like little balls of colors and are extremely common. They have been around for a long time and date back to the 18th century! These tiny multi-colored spheres essentially consist of starch and sugar, which gives them a delightful taste.

What are the rainbow sprinkles that don't bleed? ›

These are rainbow jimmies, my favorite of all the sprinkles. They come in all sorts of colors. Jimmies are great for funfetti cakes/cupcakes — because their color will not bleed out when added to batter.

What is butter bleed in cookies? ›

* BAKING & BUTTER BLEED: I like to bake my cookies the day before I decorate them - this cuts down on problems like "butter bleed" which is when the butter can leach into the royal icing and creates unsightly stains when dry. It also "breaks down" your work load so that you aren't baking and decorating all in one day.

What happens if you don't add enough sugar to cookies? ›

When you decrease the sugar in a cookie recipe, you won't just get a result that's less sweet. You'll get cookies that are harder, drier, crumblier, and spread far less. It was also interesting to note that decreasing the sugar also yielded 1 less cookie dough ball.

What does cornstarch do in sugar cookies? ›

“The result is added tenderness with more structure.” You don't need much of the ingredient to notice significant changes in your favorite recipe. Add a teaspoon or two to your dry ingredient mix and it will drastically change the texture. It's also fun to experiment until you get the exact finish you desire.

Can cream cheese filled cookies be left out? ›

Because these cookies contain cream cheese, they should be stored in the fridge in an air-tight container to prevent drying out. However, they can be left at room temperature for about 4 hours safely.

Do you need to refrigerate cream cheese frosted cookies? ›

Yes, cream cheese frosting needs to be refrigerated because it is prone to spoiling. However, cream cheese frosting can last up to two hours at room temperature, so you don't have to worry about eating cold cake.

Is cheesecake safe to eat if not refrigerated? ›

Eggs and cheese have high protein and moisture content, which, when left out at room temperature, can lead to bacteria multiplying. Conditions ripe for bacteria will make the cheesecake unsafe for eating.
