Caramel Apple Pie Milkshake Recipe (1)

Fall is my favorite season, and not just for the beautiful Fall foliage and crisp weather.

Tis the season for comfort foods, game day recipes, and decadent desserts!

Fall desserts are some of my favorites, and this caramel apple pie milkshake is no exception.

The spiced apples blended with creamy vanilla ice cream, all topped off with pillowy whipped cream, drizzled with caramel, and dusted with sweet graham crackers… it’s sinfully amazing!

How to make apple pie milkshake recipe?

This is just an overview; the full ingredients and directions are in the recipe card toward the bottom of this post.

Caramel Apple Pie Milkshake Recipe (2)
  1. Blend. For this recipe, the ice cream, milk, and apple pie filling make up the shake.
  2. Serve. We like to serve this in glasses drizzled in caramel, topped with whipped cream, drizzled with more caramel, graham cracker crumbs, and a pinch of cinnamon.

Helpful Tip!

During testing, I found that both French vanilla and vanilla bean ice cream had the best flavor. However, the beauty of this recipe is you can view it as a guide, rather than a strict formula… so please feel free to use the type of ice cream you like best!

Variations of this recipe

  • Ultra creamy– to be more decadent, try swapping half the milk for heavy cream. Oh so amazing!
  • Pie crust – in place of graham cracker crumbs, you could try crumbling some baked pie crust.
  • Ice cream – for some extra flavor, try making this recipe using my Bourbon Vanilla no churn ice cream!
  • Boozy– in case you want to indulge a little, try blending in some caramel, apple, or vanilla vodka!
  • Real pie – if you have any leftover apple pie, instead of apple pie filling, try breaking up a slice of pie and adding it to the blender with the ice cream and milk.
  • Caramel sauce – instead of store-bought sauce, try whipping up a batch of homemade salted caramel!

FAQ’s

How can you thicken a milkshake?

There’s really two main ways to thicken a milkshake. You can add more ice cream and/or flavors (in this case the apple pie filling), or you could add less liquid (in this case the milk).

Making milkshakes ahead of time

You could make this milkshake ahead of time, however it’s not my preferred method. The texture can be difficult to get right when you’re trying to thaw it enough to make it drinkable.

What gives milkshakes their amazing texture is the blend of milk-fats and tiny ice crystals. When you stick it in the freezer, the tiny ice crystals fuse and you are left with a not-very-appetizing block of milky ice.

Since this recipe only take a few minutes to come together, I’d advise just making it when you want it – not ahead.

Storage

Leftover shake (if you have any) should be frozen in an airtight container and consumed within 1-2 months for best taste.

Chef Tips

  1. For a thicker milkshake, use less milk. For a thinner milkshake, use more.
  2. If you have an older blender that may not be as powerful as the newer models, add the milk to the blender first so the blades can move a little easier at the start.
