Vermont State Police have identified David Peake, 68, as the individual responsible for a series of littering incidents at scenic pull-offs on Highbridge Road in Georgia.

The littering was also located at a wooded area on Arrowhead Lake Road over the past several years.

Peake received a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for violating Title 24, VSA, Section 2201, with a waiver fine of $800. The investigation and cleanup efforts were largely conducted by a local group. Police say their information and evidence led to Peake’s identification. – Vermont State Police via Newport Dispatch

GSW in Malletts Bay – A 31-year-old man was hospitalized with a gunshot wound after a shooting in Colchester on May 26.

At around 4:09 PM, Colchester Police Department officers responded to a call at Sharrow Circle. The victim was found with a gunshot injury to the chest and immediately transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition.

Authorities have not yet identified any suspects, but they assure there is no ongoing threat to the public. Witnesses or those with relevant knowledge are encouraged to contact the Colchester Police Department at (802) 264-5555. – Colchester police via Newport Dispatch

Woman dies at campground – Middlebury Rescue and Vermont State Police responded to Kampersville Campground in Salisbury for a reported unresponsive female on Monday morning.

The victim, identified as 69-year-old Donna M. Adams from Melrose, N.Y., was found in an RV by family members. Despite emergency resuscitation attempts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A VSP detective and an investigator from the Office of Chief Medical Examiner determined that Adams was at the campground with several family members and died from a medical event. Her death was deemed not suspicious or criminal in nature. – VSP via Newport Dispatch

Barre man charged with 104 MPH on suspended license – At 10 AM Monday, May 27, state troopers observed a vehicle traveling at 104 miles per hour. Operator Andrew J. Fortune, 24, of Barre had a criminally suspended license and was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Williston Barracks for processing, then released with a citation to appear in court, police say.

Wrong-way drunk driver on I-89 – Sunday May 26th at about 1 PM, state police began receiving multiple calls regarding a vehicle driving erratically on I-89 Southbound in Richmond. Almost immediately thereafter callers began advising that the vehicle had changed direction and was driving the wrong way, northbound in the southbound lanes of travel.

Responding troopers were notified that the vehicle eventually corrected itself and began travelling on I-89 Southbound at more than 90 MPH. A short time later the vehicle and operator were located in the parking lot of Crossroads Beverage & Deli in Waterbury.

Troopers identified the operator of the vehicle as Ericka Clark (age 51) of Barre. Clark was arrested for suspicion of DUI. She was transported to the Williston Barracks for processing, then released with a criminal citation to appear in court June 13 to answer to the charges of DUI #1 and Grossly Negligent Operation.

Armed robbery – Just after midnight Thursday, May 26, troopers from the St Albans barracks were dispatched to the report of an armed robbery. Workers at the Jolley on Main St in Enosburg, reported a male entered the store with his shirt pulled up over his face, told them he had a weapon and demanded money. The male then fled the area on foot with cash from one of the registers. He was described as approximately 5’10”, wearing a light-colored t-shirt, dark colored sweatpants and dark colored sneakers. Anyone with information is asked to please contact the State Police. Tips may be submitted anonymously by texting keyword VTIPS to 274637 (CRIMES).

Threatening witnesses – On May 20, state troopers were notified of an Obstruction of Justice incident on Grist Mill Pit Road in Concord. They say that between December 2023 and April 2024, Howard Stevens (43) and Jesse Stevens (36), had threatened witnesses involved in an ongoing criminal case in an attempt to obstruct justice. Howard Stevens and Jesse Stevens were subsequently cited into Essex County Court.
